Vehicles banned for 4 hours on January 1st

Male’, Maldives – The City Council of Male’ informed that the use of Vehicles in the grater Male’ area will be banned for four hours on January 1st.

to protect the citizens from the contagious Covid-19 virus.

Male’ City Council stated that as most citizens of Male’ city had to face the lockdown measures due to the surge in the number of Covid-19 cases in the city and as the situation in Male’ has still not returned to normal, the council wanted to provide pleasure to the citizens who had to go through such a difficult phase.

This is why, the council informed that they have decided to provide a specific timing on January 1st for the citizens of Male’ and Villimale’ people to walk instead of using their vehicles.

The Council announced that under this decision, all citizens of Male’ and Villimale’ will be forbidden to use motor vehicles on New Year’s day from 1600hrs onwards till 2000hrs.

According to the Council, the motor vehicles that are allowed to travel during the given time period are only:

  • Motor vehicles used by safety authorities.
  • Ambulance.
  • Specialized vehicles used by people with disabilities.
  • Bus services offered as Public Transport.
  • Motor Vehicles that are given special permission to drive at the given period.

The Council further informed that they will be taking actions against those who violate this rule on January 1st.
