Malé, Maldives – The flag carrier airline of Uzbekistan, Uzbekistan Airways has begun flights to the Maldives yesterday.
Maldives, in early December, celebrated the 100,000th tourists since borders reopened in July, with statistics by the Ministry of Tourism revealing that more than 540,000 tourists have arrived.
The exponential increase in arrivals this month briefly overwhelmed, Maldivian immigration services, who are currently working tirelessly so as to ensure tourists do not stay for long at Velana International Airport (VIA).
These tourist arrivals are facilitated by the numerous flights that have resumed their services to the Maldives. However, some flights are being cancelled yet again as new strains of Covid-19 have begun popping up around the globe.
Uzbekistan Airways joins the now large list of airlines that have restarted their operations to Maldives, that includes British Airways, Qatar Airways, Emirates, Sri Lankan Airlines, Aeroflot, Air India, Gulf Air and Italian Airline ‘Neos’ among others.
