Niyama Resort, Maldives – Health Protection Agency (HPA) has revealed that an additional five individuals have tested positive from island resort, Niyama Private Islands Maldives, bringing up the total cases of the cluster to 12.
It was detailed that the most recent five cases are connected to the initial cases recorded from the resort through contact tracing. So far, a total of 17 individuals have been tested in connection to the initial positive cases, which were recorded from the resort on last Wednesday.
HPA further reported that the new cases comprise of both tourists and employees of the resort as well, as the resort continues to be under monitoring status since the initial findings. During this time, all unauthorized travel to and from the island has been effectively banned, including that of new tourist arrivals.
As of Saturday, Maldives has recorded an additional 30 new cases of the novel coronavirus, which include 17 cases from the capital, Male’ and 13 from resorts.
As per the latest entry regulations for tourists into the country, tourists are required to present a negative Covid-19 PCR test which has been administered not prior to 96 hours before departure to the Maldives. All travelers coming to and from Maldives are required to submit a self-declarative health declaration within 24 hours prior to departure.
