EU and WHO donate 1 million euro to the Maldives

Male’, Maldives- The European Union (EU) and the World Heath Organization have donated donated 1 million euro to assist in Maldives’ efforts against the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Ministry of Health revealed that the aid is to be used to obtain medication against Covid-19, and to provide required items for Hulhumale’ medical facility and regional Covid ICU facilities.

In addition, a regional ICU is to be established using these funds. The health ministry noted that patients brought in for isolation or to the ICU will receive more robust treatment than what is currently being given.

The Minister of Health, Ahmed Naseem stated that the WHO has been working very closely with the Ministry of Health in regards to the Covid-19 situation, adding that the continued assistance by EU, WHO and friendly governments have played a huge role in containing the spread of the disease in the Maldives.

While 26 people tested positive for the virus today, 13 people have completely recovered from the virus over the past 24 hours. Along with these 13 recoveries, total recoveries have now reached 13,204. The recovery rate has increased rapidly from less than 60% to 95% over the past months.

Up to date, 48 people have passed away from Covid-19 in Maldives. The deceased are 41 Maldivian nationals, 6 Bangladeshi nationals and a Filipino national.
