Heavy rain and rough seas: yellow alert issued to some areas

Malé, Maldives –  The Maldives Meteorological Service (MET Office) has issued a yellow alert to some areas of Maldives.

The alert will be in affect till 23:30 tonight and means that the severity of weather conditions will be moderate in the area starting from R. Atoll to ADh. Atoll, where heavy rainfall and thunderstorms are expected.

While some areas in mid-Maldives have been issued a yellow alert, southern islands are to experience strong winds, with other regions also forecasted to be hit with higher than average wind speeds.

This comes after a nationwide white alert was issued earlier today.

The criteria for MET alerts and warnings ranges from white, which is minor to yellow, orange and red, which is issued in very severe weather conditions or if an of Indian ocean wide tsunami is confirmed to cause extreme impact to Maldives.
