Met Office issues Yellow Alert for most of Maldives!

Malé, Maldives – The National Meteorological Centre (Met Office) has issued a Yellow Alert for most of Maldives, from Haa Alif to Laamu Atoll today.

Met Office previously issued a White Alert for the whole country forecasting heavy rain, strong winds of 19 – 24 mph with gust winds of 45 mph and rough seas from early morning until noon of today.

The situation has worsened and a Yellow Alert has since been issued for atolls from Haa Alif to Laamu Atoll. Met Office forecasts torrential rain, strong winds of 25 – 30 mph and gusts of 50 mph with rough seas and wave surges. The White Alert is effective till 11:30 today.

Torrential rain and wave surges have caused massive destruction across Maldives this week.

Met Office issues three levels of warnings, White Alert for wind speeds 23 to 30 miles per hour, Yellow Alerts for wind speeds 30 to 40 miles per hour and Red Alert for wind speed exceeds 40 miles per hour. Green Alert is used when weather conditions returns to normal after a Red Alert.
