Male’, Maldives – The Privatization and Corporatization Board (PCB) has selected Mohamed Mihad as the new Managing Director of Island Aviation Services (IAS) – the parent company of Maldivian Airlines, the national flag carrier airline of the Maldives.
Mihad was serving as a board member for Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) before today’s appointment. He was previously the Managing Director and also the CEO of Maldives Tourism Development Corporation, and has also worked as upper management of the Ministry of Finance.
Mihad was appointed earlier today after PCB transferred the current MD of IAS Mohamed Rizvee to the Regional Airports Company Limited (RACL) created by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih in September 2020.
The President’s Office has previously stated that RACL was created under an executive order and is intended to “oversee the operations of regional airports developed by the government and to ensure that they are operated in an efficient and sustainable basis”.
Rizvee, the now former MD of IAS is a relative of President Solih, and was recommended as RACL’s MD to PCB by the President’s Office. His management of IAS has been harshly criticized by the public, with many expressing their concerns as he will now be upper management of RACL, which will run numerous domestic airports.
