Malé, Maldives – The Health Emergency Operations Centre (HEOC) informed that the Oblu Select at Sangeli Maldives has confirmed additional 10 Covid-19 cases taking the total to 42 positive cases in the island.
While the first positive case from the resort was found on January 3, it was of a foreign staff who underwent a PCR test to travel abroad. Later, on January 11, four more staff tested positive after exhibiting symptoms, but they were not in contact with the aforementioned case.
HEOC then collected 98 random samples from the resort on Tuesday, January 12, of which 19 samples tested positive. Additionally, eight more individuals exhibiting symptoms also tested positive on Wednesday.
HEOC informed on Thursday that the the total number of positive cases found in the Sangeli resort has increased to 42 after the resort confirmed additional ten positive Covid-19 cases.
HEOC informed that all the 42 confirmed cases are of the staffs of Sangeli resort and that till date, no tourists have tested positive for Covid-19 from the Sangeli resort.
The Health Protection Agency (HPA) informed that they have noted 52 people as contacts of the positive cases and that the they are still ongoing with the contact tracing in the Sangeli resort.
