Male’, Maldives – Former President Abdullah Yameen Abdul Gayyoom has said that he would not succumb to this administration even if he is sentenced to a lifetime of imprisonment.

This statement from the Former President was revealed to the public by the President of PNC Abdu-Raheem Abdullah (Adhurey) who is currently running the opposition coalition consisting of PPM and PNC. Speaking at a press conference last night, Adhurey said that the government have already started their attempts to frighten the opposition including summoning them to the police under different accusations targeting the upcoming local council elections.

Adhurey noted that despite these attempts from the Government, the ones currently in the leadership posts of opposition are not those who will succumb to such attempts as their mentor is Former President Yameen. In addition to this, Adhurey said that assuming that the opposition will do whatever the government wants just by imprisoning Yameen for a few years is a big misconception.

Today also Yameen said that even if he is kept here for a lifetime, he would not succumb to this administration. He will not kneel to this Government. He would not sacrifice our religion and our freedom. These are things that he would not compromise even if he is kept in jail for life.
