Addu City, Maldives – Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO) has met with Addu City Council today.
During the meeting this evening, it was discussed that ward councils were receiving complaints regarding waste collection. Why these problems occur, and how to solve them were the prominent points of discussion today.
The attending WAMCO representative said that waste collection issues were caused by the unexpected breakdown of four compactors and a lorry used by the company. He elaborated that while two compactors are up and running again, it would take one more week for the other two to be repaired, adding that the lorry would also be back in operation within the next 15 days.
There were also discussions to place more dustbins in areas frequented by the public, such as Hankede and Hithadhoo Medheaari Kilhi.
During the discussion, WAMCO revealed the company’s plans for 2021, and shared challenges they face in waste collection.
The WAMCO team concluded their visit by assuring that they would fix all current issues in waste collection as soon as possible.
