Male’, Maldives – Maldives Police Service has revealed that two individuals have been arrested by the Police in a drug bust carried out in K. Kaashidhoo, R. Ungoofaaru and B. Thulhaadhoo.
The drug bust was carried out as part of the Police efforts to minimise the usage of such drugs in Maldives, by K.Kaashidhoo Police Station, R.Ungoofaaru Police Station and B.Thulhusdhoo Police Station.
The two people arrested in the operation were local men of 31 years and 52 years. The 31 year old man was arrested on Kaashidhoo harbour on the 21st of this month, in a operation carried out by the police following information from police intelligence that drugs were being smuggled into Kaashidhoo from capital city Male’.
The 52 year old man was also brought into police custody on the 21st of this month following information from intelligence that drugs were being smuggled in a boat travelling to Rasgetheem. The man was arrested on Rasgetheem harbour. 2 plastic packets containing what is believed to be drugs were found in one of the boxes unloaded from the boat.
In addition to this, 87 pieces of cellophane containing what is believed to be drugs were confiscated from a raid conducted on a boat travelling to Thulhaadhoo following further information from intelligence.
The court has ordered for the two people arrested in the drug bust to be detained in a place decided by the Ministry of Home Affairs. The Kaashidhoo and Ungoofaaru Magistrate Courts have ordered detention of 15 days respectively for the two men.
