Police arrest man smuggling drugs to resort

Malé, Maldives – Maldives Police Service reported that a man has been arrested in a drug bust following intelligence of drugs smuggled into a resort in the region.

The 30 year old was arrested by Funadhoo Police Station in a drug bust carried out by the police in Sh. Atoll following information received by police intelligence that drugs were being smuggled into a resort in the atoll. The person was arrested with an emptied film container and packets containing what is assumed to be drugs.

Three people, including the 30 year old have been arrested during a series of drug busts carried out by HDh. Kulhudhufushi Police Station, Dh. Kudahuvadhoo Police Station and T. Thimarafushi Police Station.

Police publicised that the three arrested are local men of age 30, 32 and 36.

The 32 year old was arrested by Kudahuvadhoo Police Station in a drug operation in the area following information received by intelligence that drugs were being smuggled into a resort in Dh. Atoll. He was arrested with a container of what is assumed to be drugs. Both these arrests were made on 16 June.

Another drug bust carried out by Thimarafushi Police Station on June 15 led to the arrest of a 36 year old. A packet containing what is assumed to be drugs was found on the ground near the suspect.

In addition to this, 10 pieces of cellophane containing drugs was discovered by HDh. Kulhudhufushi Police Station on a ferry in the Atoll. The drug bust was also carried out following reports received by intelligence. However, no-one has been arrested on relation to this case yet.

Police is further investigating all of these cases.
