Maldivian Appointed as Interim CEO of HSBC Amanah Malaysia

Ahmed Firas has been chosen as the interim CEO of HSBC Amanah Malaysia from 15th February 2021.

Firas joined the executive team of bank in 2018 as the Head of Shariah and was working for the same position til he was promoted to interim CEO. As the Head of Shariah Firas was spearheading the bank’s effort to transform its Shariah risk oversight in line with HSBC’s Operational Risk Transformation Programme, while finding opportunities to digitize operational processes and implement eLearning modules for the bank.

Prior to joining HSBC, Firas served as the former Head of Shariah at Bank of Maldives Islamic. He was a key member of the executive team that successfully launched Maldives Islamic Bank, and is regarded as one of the pioneers who laid the foundation of Islamic Finance in Maldives. He is also a member of the Shariah Advisory Council of the Maldives Monetary Authority.

He holds an MBA in Islamic Banking and Finance and a Bachelor of Laws (including Shariah) from the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) and is a Chartered Professional in Islamic Finance and a Charted Banker.
