Covid-19: 1,644 active cases in the Maldives

Malé, Maldives – The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has informed that Maldives has confirmed additional 105 Covid-19 cases over the past 24 hours.

88 of the confirmed 105 cases were recorded from the greater Malé area, 04 from the islands and the remaining 12 cases from the operational resorts in Maldives with 01 recorded from Live aboard and none from the Islands under development.

With these 105 confirmed cases, Maldives now has a total 1,644 active cases, summing up the confirmed positive cases to date to a total of 15,841.

While the recovery case had initially increased rapidly from less than 60 percent to 94 percent, it has now gradually decreased to 89 percent over the past few weeks. This takes the total recovery cases to 14,139 cases to date.

To date, 52 people have passed away from Covid-19 in Maldives. The deceased are 45 Maldivian nationals, 6 Bangladeshi nationals and a Filipino national.

The nationwide Covid-19 vaccination program begins today, with frontliners as the first group vaccinated. Inoculation will be carried out in Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH), Hulhumale’ Hospital, Villimale’ Hospital, ADK Hospital and at Tree Top Hospital in Male’ City, while Addu Equatorial Hospital (AEH) and Kulhdhuffushi Regional Hospital will also follow through with the same.
