Vaccine rollout rekindles hope for businesses: Mohamed Umar Manik

Male’, Maldives – The Chairman of Universal Enterprises – a company which is one of the leading forces in the tourism industry in the Maldives – Mohamed Umar Manik, has applauded the swift vaccination rollout in the country, describing it as a rekindled hope for many in the business.

Speaking to local media outlet ‘Raajje TV’ after receiving the Covishield vaccine against the novel coronavirus, Mohamed Umar Manik said that he has not experienced any side effects following the vaccine administration, and that the entire process took a few minutes.

He went on to commend and that President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih for his efforts in securing and procuring the vaccines for Maldives, specially the work done by the President himself.

With the national vaccination program initiated on Monday, many high profile individuals of the country, including top government officials have received the Covid-19 vaccine. It is believed that with this, the general public would be further encouraged in receiving the inoculation soon.

So far, President Solih, Speaker Nasheed, Chief Justice Mu-uthasim Adnan, along with several ministers and many health care professionals have received the jab in the Maldives.

Currently, vaccination programs are on going in Addu City, Male’ City, and in Kulhudhuffushi City, covering the northern, central and southern areas of the country.

The vaccination program started with 100,000 doses of Covid-19 vaccine received as Indian aid, while an additional 700,000 doses have been secured via an agreement signed with AstraZeneca company, along with the vaccines to be received via the Covax facility, which would amount to 20 percent of the Maldivian population.
