JUST IN: Resort employees to be vaccinated for Covid-19 tomorrow

Male’, Maldives — The Minister of Tourism of Maldives, Dr. Abdulla Mausoom has informed that vaccination will begin for the employees of the tourism sector of Maldives on 4 February 2021.

Minister Mausoom tweeted to inform that the tourism sector employees will receive the vaccination tomorrow while thanking the President of Maldives, Ibrahim Mohamed Solih for speeding up the vaccination of the tourism frontline team of the island nation.

Minister Mausoom expressed hope that with the vaccination program that began on February 1st, Maldives will top the leader board of World’s safest destinations. On January 2021 alone, Maldives managed to pick up in the months since the country reopened its borders by welcoming 92,103 tourist arrivals to the country.

According to Minister Mausoom, the incumbent government has kept 10,000 doses of the Covishield vaccine specifically for the resort workers. As the Covishield vaccine brought to Maldives consists of two separate doses of 0.5 ml each, Minister Mausoom informed that the 10,000 doses can only be administered to 5,000 resort workers.

While the government has specifically prepared 10,000 doses of Covishield vaccine for resort workers, the number of confirmed and active Covid-19 cases of resort workers remain at a very high level at present.

Minister Mausoom earlier stated that although Maldives foresees to face more challenges in the future, the Tourism Ministry sees a lot of improvement and success in 2021 compared to the year before.

He expressed hope and excitement towards the year 2021 and stated that despite the Covid-19 pandemic, Maldives will be ready for 2021 with new facilities and developed areas and that “2021 is going to be a year of investment for the Maldives.”
