Police Academy in Addu will open this year: President Solih

Addu City, Maldives – President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has revealed that the Police Academy being developed in Addu City will open and start providing services during the ongoing year.

Giving the Presidential address today, President Solih said that much work was done in the year 2020 to professionalize the policing work done by Maldives Police Service, and to establish services of neighborhood policing.

The results were very good. With the Grace of Allah, I am happy to announce that no lives were lost due to gang violence during the year 2020.

Further explaining the work done to ensure the safety of the residents, President Solih stated that a special wing was established within Maldives Police Service, to investigate crimes committed by children, crimes committed against children as well as domestic and sexual violence and crimes alike. He also added that within this year, a special department would be formed to investigate cyber crimes.

During the address, President Solih also highlighted that additional 42 police stations will be established within this year, as part of the local policing priority. As such, the National College of Policing and Law Enforcement Center, or as more commonly known as the Addu Police Academy, will also be officially opened during this year, revealed President Solih.

In addition, the President went on to share that with the amendments brought to the legal framework of the Police, he believe that the institution will regain the trust and love of the public in the forthcoming days.
