President Solih inaugurates Parliament’s library and digital archive

Male’, Maldives – The President of Maldives, Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has officially inaugurated the ‘Library and Digital Archive’ of the Maldivian Parliament.

The inauguration of the ‘Library and Digital Archive’ of the Parliament took place at this year’s inaugural session of Parliament. The brand new library and digital archive is located to in the south of the new 13-storey building in the Parliament building.

The President’s Office revealed that the library and digital archive would maintain and preserve historical documents to make it easier for the general public to access information, photos and videos that are related to the Parliament. 

Currently, the Parliament comprise of over 6,680 texts, 1,529 videos, 2,133 books, and over 10,000 photographs.

Along with the inaugural of the new library and digital archive, a special monument was also unveiled at the ceremony. The monument was inscribed with President Solih’s name and the date of the inauguration. Along with this, President Solih also received a commemorative plaque from the Speaker of the Parliament and the former President of Maldives, Mohamed Nasheed during the ceremony.

On October, the Parliament had also established a new Mothers’ Room in the Parliament as there were no set regulations to “create space” for pregnant Members. This is why, Speaker Nasheed stated that he does not believe that the Chambers should be so unaccommodating for expectant mothers and established a Mothers’ Room in the Parliament so the child can be looked after of at certain times.

In addition to this, Speaker Nasheed has also announced that the Social Club of the Parliament has decided to open a restaurant and a gym in the Parliament.
