Covid-19: 9 additional cases from LUX* South Ari Atoll resort

Malé, Maldives – Health Emergency Operations Center (HEOC) has confirmed that 9 additional positive cases of Covid-19 have been found from LUX* South Ari Atoll Resort & Villas.

During last night’s press conference, HEOC revealed during the daily Covid-19 statistics that a total of 17 additional cases of Covid-19 were found from resorts yesterday, out of which 9 cases were from LUX* South Ari Atoll resort. HEOC also noted that the positive cases also include some of the resort staff.

The resort had previously recorded 37 cases of Covid-19 which has now risen to 46 with the newly found 9 cases of yesterday. While the number of Covid-19 are significantly increasing from resorts, vaccination has also begun for resorts and other tourism industry frontline personnel.

The daily Covid-19 cases in the country has had a significant increase since late 2020 with over 100 daily cases each day.

As of yesterday, Maldives has recorded a total of 18,930 positive cases of Covid-19. While 16,351 people have recovered from the disease, 60 people have passed away due to the virus in Maldives. Health officials continue to urge the public to adhere to the protective guidelines to minimize the spread of the disease as much as possible.
