Malé, Maldives – Former President and current Speaker of the Parliament of Maldives, Mohamed Nasheed has stated that the citizens of Maldives will have no complaints towards the incumbent government after the upcoming local council elections.
While speaking at the ceremony held to begin the official campaigning of the ruling party, Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), Speaker Nasheed who is also the President of MDP has stated that after a successful local council, the citizens will no longer have to complain over things saying that they aren’t fulfilled as there will be no further excuses the government can give after they receive all the power from the council.
The only complaint available against the government then will be regarding bilateral relationships or other similar things that don’t concern the citizens.
Nasheed stated.
Nasheed noted that MDP came to ruling after knowing well what the citizens want and that they are competing in the elections to defeat their oppositions for the third time in history.
Nasheed stated that the decentralized system of Maldives is one of the most important thing for the ruling party MDP and that one of the first things they did in the parliament was bringing changes to the decentralized system of Maldives.
With this, Nasheed stated that if PPM gets majority of the votes in the elections, then the decentralized system of Maldives will be destroyed.
Imagine what would happen if PPM gets votes, what will happen to this system. This system is not something that they know. It is a system that MDP knows.
Nasheed stated.
Nasheed further stated that Maldives is one of the countries among the world to handle the Covid-19 situation well and that Maldives will also be the most vaccinated country and the country to save the lives of thousands of people.
Nasheed mentioned that the actions brought to the decentralized system couldn’t be active due to the delay in the local council elections, however, he stated that after the elections, the citizens will have no complaints against the government.
