Addu City, Maldives – The opposition candidate for Addu City Mayor in the upcoming local council elections Mohamed Latheef said that the bridge between Addu City, Meedhoo and Hithadhoo will be built by Former President Abdullah Yameen Abdul Gayyoom.

Speaking at last night’s PPM gathering, Latheef said that the current administration is frequently talking about monorails and building bridges which in reality, cannot be accomplished within the two remaining years for this administration according to him.

Latheef’s comments were directed at the agreement worth MVR 1.19 billion signed between the Maldivian government and a company of India, to develop an underwater tunnel and develop bridges and roads between Meedhoo and Hithadhoo. The project is estimated to be completed within two years.

In addition to this, Latheef said that developing a bridge between Hithadhoo and Meedhoo was a promise of the previous administration and that it will be accomplished in the coming five years. He added that Former President Yameen must be re-elected to the government in 2023 to ensure that the bridge will be built.

Experience of building bridges and experience of development both are with the former administration

Latheef further said that he hopes that the Addu citizens would vote for a change this time and that he will ensure that the citizen’s dreams are made a reality.
