Malé, Maldives – Minister of Education Dr. Aishath Ali has said today that introducing local exams in addition to existing Cambridge and Edexcel examinations would benefit the country and its students.

At an online press conference by the Education Ministry today, Minister Aishath Ali stated that there were discussions to change Maldives’ examination system to a local examination system. However, she added that no solid decisions has been made on the matter yet.

There are plans like this for the future, but right now we will continue with Cambridge and Edexcel examinations.

The Maldives has continued to hold Cambridge O’levels and Pearson Edexcel A’Levels for well over two decades, along with local examinations for the local language Dhivehi and Islam.

The Minister’s statement comes, as numerous neighbouring countries who have followed a similar system have now opted for local syllabuses geared toward their own culture and religions.
