Malé, Maldives – Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) are currently assisting a fisherman who got injured by a fishing hook near ‘Mulee Bouy’ of Lhaviyani Atoll, today at around 07:30.
It was revealed that the fisherman belongs to a fishing vessel named ‘Rukkuri’ and is currently being taken for emergency treatment by the MNDF Northern Area Coast Guard Squadron. However, it was not revealed to which hospital the fisherman was being transferred to.
The number of fishermen being injured by fishing hooks is alarmingly high as of recent, among other fishing related accidents at sea. Due to this, some fishermen have called on to the Ministry of Fisheries and Agriculture to organize an emergency response training aimed at treating such incidents for fishermen, highlighting the need to have at least one trained personnel on board.
