Maldivian to start direct flights from Mumbai to N. Maafaru

Malé, Maldives – Maldivian just announced that the national carrier will start direct flights from N. Maafaru to Mumbai.

In a press conference, the Managing Director of Maldivian, Mohammed Mihad, announced this decision stating that the first flight is expected to start from 13 April 2021, with flights planned 3 times a week.

At present, the Maafaru international airport which connects to four atolls in the region is used by tourists for private jets. Since the beginning of 2021, 211 private jets have landed at the airport.

N. Atoll is home to prestigious luxury resorts in the Maldives, including Soneva Jani, JW Marriott Maldives Resort & Spa, Mövenpick Resort Kuredhivaru Maldives and Robinson Club Noonu.

Mihad emphasized the lucrative market for resorts and guesthouses in the region and said that the airline is liaising with tour operators in India and tourist establishments in the atoll itself. He also invited all guesthouses to fully utilize this operation.

Maldivian has appointed a General Sales Agent (GSA) in Mumbai as part of the operations.

The Deputy Managing Director of Maldivian, Aishath Jennifer, emphasized that the national carrier had played a significant role during the pandemic and will continue to assist the communities and economy.

Maldivian is also looking to extend the N. Maafaru operations by starting flights with another city that have not been revealed yet.
