Malé, Maldives – Major General Shamaal has stated that MNDF is exploring ways to punish the people who released the fake UTF agreement draft circulating on social media. He elaborated that he had never seen the agreement draft circulating on the Social Media before.
He further stressed that the Defence Force is intact and shall not be used as part of political propaganda. The nation’s independence and religion will not be used to bring MNDF into political propaganda.
I have seen the agreement on social media. [ I advise the media] when talking about others, do not release biased news reports. The agreement does not affect our independence… agreements can be cancelled if needed.

Major General Shamaal stressed that this is a sovereign nation. UTF does not have the characteristics and capacity of a military base, according to Shamal.
