Addu, Fuvahmulah and Huvadhoo tourism will be promoted together: Minister Mausoom

Addu City, Maldives – Tourism Minister of Maldives, Dr. Abdullah Mausoom has stated that the tourism in Fuvahmulah City and Huvadhoo atoll will be promoted together with Addu City.

Speaking at the land handover ceremony for development and operation of tourist hotels and guest houses in Addu City, Minister Dr. Mausoom stated that as the lands have been handed over, that the developmental progress will increase as well.

Today I’ve received an unusual type of happiness. Because today the hopes of the citizens of Addu City, the council and the businesses will become a reality

Minister Mausoom stated.

While the Ministry has decided to lease off 93 lands from the five tourism zones of Addu City, 31 lands were handed over to the successful winners at the land handover ceremony that was held on Thursday.

Minister Mausoom stated that the handing over of lands is the start of a huge project in Addu City and that the ministry hopes that this model will be replicated around the whole country.

Along with Addu, we will promote Fuvahmulah and Huvadhoo atoll as southern zones as well. So, this zone will become another beautiful destination in Maldives.

The lands handed over today included 7 lands from Hithadhoo Tourism Zone, one from Maradhoo Tourism Zone, 12 lands in Feydhoo, 9 from Hulhudhoo and 2 from Meedhoo Tourism Zone. 

The bid winners of these lands had signed the agreements on 14th and 15th of this month. The construction of tourist guesthouses and hotels should start at most in 2 years, for the lands given today.

While a total of 93 lands have been allocated for tourist guesthouses and hotels in Addu City, the 31 lande given for development are expected to account for up to 4,000 beds, according to Minister Mausoom. Whilst 31 lands have been given, the remaining 62 lands are open for invitation to tender.
