Malé, Maldives – The first shipment of 100,000 doses of Covishield vaccine purchased by Maldives has arrived today.

This is the first batch of vaccines procured from Serum Institute of India (SII) under the Vaccine Purchase Agreement signed between Maldives Ministry of Health and SII on 23 March 2021, for purchase of 200,000 doses of Covishield vaccine.

Previously in January and February 2021, the government of India has donated 200,000 doses of Covishield to the country. Maldives used this vaccine for the first phase of Covid-19 vaccination to inoculate individuals with the first dose.

The procured 200,000 doses are to be used to innoculate the individuals from the first phase as the second dose.
