JUST IN: Maldives coast guard rescues stranded foreign yacht

Male’, Maldives —The Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) has rescued a foreign yacht in need of help in Maldivian waters.

MNDF revealed that a sailing yacht by the name of “Lagaan” which was traveling from Seychelles on its way to Phuket, Thailand, is being assisted by the MNDF Coast Guard as it was in need of help at the Search and Rescue area of Maldives.

The MNDF Coastguard Rescue Coordination Center (MRCC) received information of a foreign yacht in need of help 26 nautical north of Huvadhoo atoll at 14:55 on March 29. MNDF stated that the yacht was rescued by joint efforts between the MNDF Southern Area Coastguard, Italy MRCC Roma and a Ro-Ro Cargo Ship “Ecosavannah” which was travelling same route.

The yacht was later brought to GA. Villingili by the MNDF along with the two individuals on board. MNDF stated that the condition of the two individuals are good.
