Taxis banned from playing music without passenger consent

Malé, Maldives – Taxis are banned from using sound generating devices without passenger consent as per amendment to the taxi regulations.

The newly amended taxi regulations gazetted today specifies that drivers are prohibited from using devices that generate sounds, except communication devices without passenger consent.

This amendment requires the permission of passengers for the use of radio, televisions, music players and other such devices inside a taxi.

The revised taxi regulation also stipulates that each taxi must have a communication device installed through which the driver can communicate with the taxi center. The communication through the system must be respectful and use of foul language is forbidden.
