MDP Policies need to be changed to gain support of Malé citizens: Anas

Male’, Maldives —MDP candidate, Anas Abdul Sattar who lost against the elect-mayor of Male’ city, Dr. Mohamed Muiz for the position of the Mayor of Male’ city has congratulated Muiz on his victory.

After the results of the local council elections that was held yesterday, Anas tweeted to state that the people of Male’ have spoken and that he accepts the outcome of the election results.

With this, Anas congratulated his opponent, the Vice President of Opposition party, PPM, Dr. Mohamed Muiz who is the Mayor elect of the capital Male’ city.

Anas stated that the ruling party, MDP has to deeply look into the results of the local council elections and called on to the party to re-strategize its approach to win over the people of Malé city once again.

For years, MDP has ruled over the capital Male’ city area until this year’s local council elections was taken over by the opposition parties. In addition to PPM candidate Dr. Mohamed Muiz winning the Male’ city by a large margin against Anas, the Vice President of People’s National Congress (PNC) Shujau also won the coucil seat for Hulhumale’. Along with this, the ruling party, MDP has lost majority of the higher positions in the Male’ area to Opposition coalition.
