Muizzu sworn in as Malé city mayor

Malé, Maldives – Former Housing Minister and the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) mayoral candidate of Malé, Dr. Mohamed Muizzu was sworn the Malé City mayor earlier today at an online ceremony today.

Dr Muizzu was sworn in by the Maldives High Court Justice Hathim Hilmy.

Dr Muizzu defeated Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) candidate, Anas Abdul Sattar by securing 12,470 votes from the counted votes. MDP candidate Anas had received 7,436 votes.

Malé city councilors were also sworn in today. The opposition, Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) won 11 out of 19 seats in the Malé City Council, winning major seats such as Villimalé and Hulhumalé seat. MDP won 6 seats in the Malé council.

The new city council began it’s official duties and held its first meeting today.
