L. Atoll, Maldives – L. Gan and connected industrial island Mandhoo have been placed under monitoring due to Covid-19 positive cases.
Gan local council informs that positive cases were first recorded in Mandhoo, following which 3 cases were found in Gan, Mukurimagu district. Health Protection Agency (HPA) has placed the islands under monitoring until contact tracing is complete.
At present there are 82 islands under monitoring including 3 industrial islands.
According to the most recent statistics, 319 cases were recorded; 108 were from the Malé area, while 182 cases were recorded from inhabited islands. The figures also included the 21 new found cases from operational resorts and 08 case from industrial islands which brought up the total active cases in the country to 3,207.
With this, the total number of Covid-19 cases recorded in the country has reached 27,403 out of which 24,116 patients have made full recoveries, as of 18:00 of April 23, 2021.
Since the country recorded its first case of Covid-19, Maldives has reported 71 deaths in connection to Covid-19. The deceased are 64 Maldivian nationals, 6 Bangladeshi nationals and a Filipino national.
