Discussions ongoing to postpone AFC to be held in Malé

Malé, Maldives – Youth Minister Ahmed Mahloof said that discussions are now ongoing to postpone the matches of AFC which are scheduled to be played in Malé, due to the current Covid-19 situation in Maldives.

Minister Mahloof tweeted saying that discussions have now begun, to postpone the matches of AFC due to the increasing number of Covid-19 cases in Maldives.

Spokesperson of the President’s Office Mabrook Azeez said that a special permission has been granted to host the matches of AFC in Malé, as special measures implemented due to Covid-19 require a special permit to host such activities.

Mabrook added that the permit was granted after discussions with the Youth Ministry and Health Protection Agency as this is an international competition. The matches are to be carried out under special guidelines implemented with respect to the current situation.

However, the public raised their concerns in social media stressing on the deteriorating Covid-19 situation in Maldives with record number of daily cases being noted.
