3 surgeries done on Speaker Nasheed

Malé, Maldives – Local media have reported that three surgeries have been done on Speaker of Parliament, Mohamed Nasheed following the explosive attack near his car last night which has left Speaker Nasheed injured.

According to local media “CNM”, the first surgery was done on his head and the second was done on his lungs and heart to remove sharp bits which had penetrated in to his body during the blast.

Following the CT scans two pieces of sharp bits had been removed from his lungs and another surgery was being done on his intestine following the injuries he received. In addition to this, media reports state that part of his rib cage has been broken as well.

The explosion which went off around 20:20 tonight left Speaker of Parliament, Mohamed Nasheed injured while he was getting in to his car near his house, G. Kenereege, Malé City. In addition to him, 3 more people have also been reported to be injured from the explosion.

Speaking in an address to the nation following the incident last night, President Solih told that the perpetrators would face the full force of the law and that the government would take every necessary measure to ensure the safety and security of the people.

President Solih had also revealed that government would receive assistance from the Australian Federal Police in the investigation into the explosion and that they would arrive on Saturday to aid Maldives’ authorities in the investigation.

ADK Hospital had revealed last night that the Speaker of Parliament, Mohamed Nasheed was brought to the hospital at 20:30 tonight and that he is being treated by a multi specialty medical team.
