Investigations on extremists to be prioritized

Malé, Maldives – The Parliament’s 241 Committee has passed the motion to prepone the investigation of the extremists by the police.

After the investigation of the case of bomb attack on the former President and Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed, the 241 Committee made a report on the four cases that they would investigate next. One of these is investigating all things related to extremists and bring about a stop to it as soon as possible.

The committee has also decided to inform the police to share all information regarding the Speaker Nasheed’s bomb case. The committee will follow the police investigation of the case as well. In addition, the committee has decided to inquire why the security was breached when the attack happened on Speaker Nasheed, who was under the protection of safety authorities, with the help of international professionals.

The police have not yet said which group of people are involved in the attack on Speaker Nasheed. But the three suspects who were arrested are extremists, police said.

In today’s Parliament meeting, the 241 Committee had put their report of the attack on Speaker Nasheed, on the agenda. Although, the current discussion in the parliament is about the Israel-Palestine attacks, made by the Member of Parliament representing Naifaru constitution Ahmed Shiyam.

The bomb attack made on Speaker Nasheed near his house, left him with multiple life threatening injuries. He underwent multiple surgeries in a span of 16 hours in ADK hospital. Speaker Nasheed is currently in Germany, for further treatment and stabilisation.
