Covid-19 state expenditure at MVR 3.3 billion

Male’, Maldives – Finance Ministry has revealed that government expenditures on COVID-19 has risen to MVR 3.3 billion.

The weekly updates released by the Finance Ministry shows that till May 13, the government spent MVR 1.6 billion on health and social sector, this is a rise by 2.5 percent from the week before.

Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital spent the most in health and social sector for medical equipments compared to any other institution with MVR 41.3 million. This takes the total expenditure of IGMH on Covid-19 purposes to MVR 143.6 million.

On the other hand, the Health Ministry spent a total of MVR 496.4 million out of MVR 274 million was used for travel purposes, while MVR 33.9 million was spent on providing allowances to the employees and MVR 80.5 million on getting the necessity equipments for Covid-19 protection.

The Finance Ministry revealed that MVR 67.6 million was spent on the Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) out of which MVR 48.5 million was given as allowance. Along with this, MVR 31.1 million was spent on Maldives Police Service out of which MVR 27.4 million was given as allowance for the officers.

The weekly report noted that there was no change in the money that was spent on economic response MVR 1.7 billion from the government till May 13.

With this, the total amount of money the government has spent on Covid-19 has risen to MVR 3.3 billion.
