PG files arrest warrant for Parliament Social Affairs chair MP Easa regarding domestic violence case

Malé, Maldives – Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO) has filed a request for the arrest warrant for Ahmed Easa, Chair of parliament Social Affairs committee MP Easa of Kendhikulhudhoo constituency, regarding an ongoing domestic violence investigation.

Maldives Police Service (MPS) started to investigate a domestic violence case against MP Easa on the night of 18 May 2021.

According to his neighbours, the case against him was filed for attacking his wife Asra Naeem (Asoo) who is also the younger sister of Vice President of Maldives, Faisal Naseem.

While Maldivian Democratic Party’s parliamentarian Ahmed Easa has refused to comment on the matter, local media have reported that MPS had attended the scene during the night of the incident and his wife had received treatment at the hospital for the injuries.

Asra has made a post on social media saying that both mother and child are alright after the incident, and expressed appreciation for those that supported her.

Maldives Police Service had not revealed further details but ‘The Times of Addu’ has confirmed that the case was lodged last night and that Asra has given her statement against MDP MP Easa yesterday.
