Tourism Ministry extends bid date for 16 new islands

Malé, Maldives – The Ministry of Tourism has extended the bid submission date for 16 new resorts to 24 June.

The government Gazette stated that the Ministry of Tourism announces an extension to the Bid Closing Date, till 24 June 2021 considering the restrictions set forth globally due to the Covid-19 pandemic. They added that the last date to obtain further information and to purchase the bidding documents will now be 20 June 2021. Both local and foreign companies may bid for the islands available.

Interested parties can obtain further information and purchase the bidding documents from 14 April 2021 up to 20 June 2021, between 09:00 to 12:30, from the Ministry of Tourism or online, via e-mail to planning@tourism.gov.mv.

The islands up for bids are,

  • HA. Velifinolhu
  • HA. Alidhuffarufinolhu
  • HDh. Kudafarufasgan’du
  • M. Seedhee Huraa with M. Seedhee Huraa Veligan’du
  • M. Maausfushi
  • Th. Kaaddoo
  • Th. Kanimeedhoo North (10 hectares from the North)
  • Th. Olhufushi with Olhufushi sandbank
  • L. Bodumun’yafushi
  • L. Dhonberaha with Holhurahaa
  • L. Kashidhoo
  • GA. Maarehaa
  • GA. Funadhooviligillaa
  • GDh. Kan’dahalagalaa
  • GDh. Kadevaarehaa with Dhigurehaa
  • GDh. Fereythagillaa (as a cluster with neighbouring islands, Dhekaanbaa, Koderataa and Fereythagillaa)

Bids must be delivered before 10:00 on Thursday, 24 June 2021 to the Ministry or any other venue decided by the Tourism Ministry.

The Tourism Ministry has reduced the lease acquisition costs of the islands costs for the islands to boost investor interest and confidence, considering the current investment climate.
