An audio recording of the Parliamentary representative of Meedhoo Ahmed Siyam Mohamed calling to hang his colleague, the representative for Thulhaadhoo Constituency Hisaan Hussain was publicised by local news outlet “Adhadhu”.
According to Adhadhu, this was recorded from a conversation held after Siyam came out of a session of Parliament’s National Security Services Committee (214), of which both he and MP Hisaan are members.
In the 15 second clip, Siyaam could be heard calling to hang Hisaan, and further stating that “it would not be a sin” to do so.
When reached out by Adhahu to comment on the audio, Siyam said that he might have said something along those lines in an argument with Hisan during the committee meeting, and added that he did not “mean it like that.”
Siyam further clarified that the argument was due to anger over the functioning of the Judicial Service Commission.
Meanwhile MP Hisaan has yet to make any remarks on this issue.
The Meedhoo constituent who is frequently absent from the parliament and committee sessions has been notably present in the National Security Service Commission’s inquiry sessions held to investigate the assassination attempt on former President and Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed.
According to Siyam , he started to take part in the committee sessions as important work need to be done to ensure peace in Maldives. He also stated that making statements that put others lives in danger was a deeply concerning issue.
