Discussions held to increase higher education opportunities from Australia

Male’, Maldives – The Higher Education Ministry of Maldives has held discussions with the Australian High Commission, to increase higher education opportunities extended from Australia to the Maldives.

A virtual meeting was held with the participation of Minister of Higher Education Dr. Ibrahim Hassan and the Australian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka and Maldives, H.E Mr. David Holly to discuss enhancing partnership and investment opportunities in Higher Education in Maldives. The meeting was also attended by the team of Australian High Commission.

Minister Hassan discussed about increasing scholarships and degree opportunities for Maldivians from Australia. As tuition fees are free via the Australia Awards and Australia University under a partnership programs, Minister Hassan suggested the commencement of a program where the Maldivian government provides allowance for those students.

Higher Education further stated that discussions were also held to organize additional educational programs for those who are working in the health sector, working against Covid-19 in the Maldives.

Noting that opportunities are wide open to establish junior colleges and polytechnic universities in different atolls of the Maldives, Minister Hassan stated that this is a great opportunity for the Australian Universities to invest in the higher education industry of the Maldives.
