Five lower courts with no bathrooms

Thaa Atoll, Maldives – Director of the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) and the Chief Magistrate of Th. Atoll judicial sector, Hassan Zaheen has stated that five courts in Th. atoll does not have bathrooms installed in them.

Speaking at the annual judges meeting held virtually by the judges committee and the Department of Judicial Administration (DJA), Hassan Zaheen stated that five courts in Th. judicial; sector does not have a bathroom for the employees to use and the employees face a lot of difficulties due to this.

The islands without a bathroom in their courts are Th. Omadhoo Magistrate Court, Thaa. Dhiyamigili Court, Dh. Bandidhoo Magistrate Court, L. Kunahandhoo Magistrate Court and L. Mundoo Magistrate Court.

As there is no mic in the video conferencing system, Hassan Zaheen also stated that they are unable to carry out hearings appropriately with audio and video features. The judges who spoke at the conference also complained about their slow internet speed.

During the meeting, it was also noted that an island consisting of over 650 people has only three employees at the courts; one support staff and two administrative employees.
