Switzerland beat Turkey 3-1 but that wasn’t enough for them to go through as Italy and Wales qualify to the UEFA Euro 2020 round of 16.
Italy had already secured their place after beating Switzerland in the second match of the group. Wales were beaten in tonight’s match against the Azzurri 1-0, but as both Wales and the Swiss got 4 points, goal difference was the decider.
Wales had +1 in goal difference while Switzerland conceded one more than they scored, resulting a negative 1 goal in difference. Sefrovic scored in the 6th minute against Turkey in a game they dominated the whole game. Xherdan Shaqiri scored twice, a goal in each half. Irfan Can Kahveci scored the only goal for Turkey in the 62nd minute of the game.
The Swiss still has a faint chance but they need to wait a little longer. Of the six groups playing, the four teams who came on third but, secure the best result gets a chance to go the knockout stages. So, Switzerland will know whether they go through after the group stages are done. Turkey is eliminated without a point, being the first team to be eliminated from this years Euro Championship.
Pessina was the difference maker in Italy’s game against Wales. He scored in the 39th minute of the game. Wales were resilient enough to not let another goal pass through, resulting them a place in the knockout stages.
