Malé, Maldives – Local media reports that Maldives Police has searched a taxi while investigating the murder of the 13 year old boy on Monday.
The vehicle is reported to be used to transport the boy’s body to the final location at Hulhumalé Phase 2 lagoon where the victim was found.
Police have yet to release any further updates regarding the vehicle search.
Authorities have revealed that the deceased body was uncovered in Hulhumalé. The child’s family had filed a report over the child’s kidnapping with the Police on June 20, 2021.
According to Maldives Police Service, following a 48-hour search, the body was located at approximately 02:38 on June 21. Sources report that the 13 year old’s body was found stuffed in a box and discarded in a lagoon in Hulhumalé Phase 2.
Police also stated that two arrests were made in connection to the murder and kidnapping. At present, the suspects are another minor aged 17 and an adult aged 27.
The suspects are charged with 4 criminal offences including sexual abuse on a minor. Other charges include murder and that of rape. The adult suspect is remanded to remand until the end of trial while the juvenile is remanded for 15 days by the Criminal Court of Maldives.
