Malé, Maldives – MP of Makunudhoo Constituency Mohamed Raaee on Thursday night, said conveying a message from Former President and Current Speaker of the Parliament Mohamed Nasheed, that Nasheed aims to return back to Maldives this coming July.
The statement came at last night’s MDP national Steering Committee meeting, in which MP Raaee took the stage to say that he had the opportunity of conversing with Speaker Nasheed and that Nasheed aims to return back next month.
My hope is also for us to meet the Speaker this coming month, and continue our work as well as his, at a faster pace than before to achieve a brighter future for everyone.

Following MP Raaee, MP of Villifushi Constituency Hassan Afeef, who is also on the May 6 Committee of MDP, said that he also spoke with the Speaker yesterday and that he informs that his internal injuries have completely healed. However, the MP noted the Speaker still has some immobility in his elbow which is 50 percent functional as well as 3 left toes which are 10 percent functional. In addition to this, the MP also that a scab on the Speaker’s leg has not yet healed.
The IED explosion went off around 20:20 on 6 May leaving Speaker of Parliament, Mohamed Nasheed critically injured while he was getting in to his car near his house, G. Kenereege, Malé City. In addition to the Speaker, 3 more people were also been reported to be injured from the explosion including the Speaker’s bodyguards and bystanders.
Nasheed was taken to ADK with heavy bleeding and both internal and external shrapnel injuries. Ball bearings were found in Nasheed’s chest, near the heart. Injuries caused by these projectiles caused life threatening damage to the chest area. Nasheed endured major injury to the fourth rib, with a blade going through a lung. A projectile also went through his intestine with another near his liver.
