President’s Special Envoy meets 241 Committee

Malé, Maldives – Special Envoy of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih meets the Parliamentary Committee on National Security (241 Committee) virtually on Thursday, to closely inspect the inquiry going on in relation to the terror attack against Former President and Current Speaker of the Parliament Mohamed Nasheed on May 6.

Mid-May, President Solih appointed a British Special Envoy, Abbaz Faiz to monitor the investigation, prosecution and trial of the terrorist attack that took place on May 6th against the Speaker of Parliament and former President Mohamed Nasheed.

Special Envoy, Abbaz Faiz is required to make sure that all stages of the investigation prosecution and trial of the alleged perpetrators, and any related and necessary inquiries are according to the international best practice and national laws. This is to ensure that the integrity of this investigation.

Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on National Security MP Mohamed Aslam informed on Wednesday that they have summoned a total of 49 individuals for the parliament inquiry, out of which, 33 were from The Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF).

Giving assurance that the report for this incident will be publicized, hopefully within the upcoming week, MP Aslam stated that the 241 Committee is yet to meet ADK doctors who treated Speaker Nasheed on May 06 along with the Special Envoy Abbaz Faiz before concluding the inquiry.

President’s Office earlier informed that Special Envoy Abbaz Faiz will be stationed at the President’s Office until the investigation is finished and publicized, while closely inspecting and advising the 241 Committee.
