MayTerrorAttack: Special Envoy meets Deputy Speaker of Parliament

Malé, Maldives– Envoy of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, Abbas Faiz meets with the Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Eva Abdullah regarding the terror attack that took place against Speaker of Parliament, Mohamed Nasheed on May 06.

Mid-May, President Solih appointed a British Special Envoy, Abbas Faiz to monitor the investigation, prosecution and trial of the terrorist attack that took place on May 6th against the Speaker of Parliament and former President Mohamed Nasheed.

While Special Envoy Abbas Faiz meets the Vice President of the Parliament, no details regarding their meeting have been disclosed to the public yet. Abbas Faiz has also met MDP “May 06” Committee created to closely monitor the investigations so far during his stay in the Maldives.

Abbas Faiz arrived to Maldives this Friday to make sure that all stages of the investigation prosecution and trial of the alleged perpetrators, and any related and necessary inquiries are according to the international best practice and national laws. This is to ensure that the integrity of this investigation.

President’s Office earlier informed that Special Envoy Abbas Faiz will be stationed at the President’s Office until the investigation is finished and publicized, while closely inspecting and advising the 241 Committee, currently inquiring the investigation.

The 241 Committee earlier gave assurance that the report for this incident will be publicized, hopefully within this week.
