Male’, Maldives – Former Home Minister Umar Naseer on Tuesday night, said that the current MDP government is digging their own grave.

Speaking on a programme of a local broadcaster “CNM”, the Former Home Minister said that the government has been playing in defence for a year and that they have been consistent in doing so with all the cases such as that of the ventilator corruption, rape cases and even the sexual harassment case against Former Tourism Minister Ali Waheed.

In addition to this, Umar Naseer said that the party has been constantly scoring its own goals and that Speaker Nasheed challenging President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih for the presidential election in 2023 was a big one.

The reality is that we don’t really have to do much to attack the party. All we have to do is simply hand them the shovel while they keep on digging their own grave. We don’t have to do much.

In addition to this, Umar Naseer said that Speaker Nasheed’s plans to change the government system of Maldives to a parliamentary system will not be successful. He added that they will not be successful even if they make a coalition with Former president Abdullah Yameen Abdyl Gayyoom and that the citizen will simply dance to their tunes.

Furthermore, Umar said that although some people believe that whatever the two biggest political parties in Maldives decide will happen, in reality, it is not the case at all. He added that he will be happy if a yes or no vote is taken on the changing of the government as it will clarify the opinion of the citizens.
