Male’, Maldives – Vice President of Jumhooree Party (JP) Ahmed Saud said that MDP will not succeed in another election without the support of the party.

The statement from Ahmed Saud comes following claims from some Parliamentarians from Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) accusing certain JP parliamentary members of trying to form another political party.

Speaking on a programme broadcasted by local channel VTV, Vice President of JP Ahmed Saud said that the sympathy and concern from MDP members on the topic show their reluctance towards the party. He added that every party that has won the presidential election since 2003, did so with the help of the Jumhooree Party. However, Saud noted their actions after getting power are like that of using and throwing away tissue paper.

In addition to this, Ahmed Saud said that they were not concerned by rumours accusing some JP members of trying to create another political party. He added that the current members of the party would not attempt such a thing and that there are no such conflicts within the leadership of the party as well.

We are not concerned by such a rumor. They are simply trying to create conflicts within the party, but will not be successful. They will not succeed again without our help, even in the next election.

The Jumhooree Party Council previously passed to a candidate represent the party in the upcoming 2023 elections. The party has not since then announced any changes in their decision.
