Male’, Maldives – President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih stated on Thursday that the government is working on installing a PCR and a point of care (POC) machine in Fuvahmulah City, to test for the Covid-19 virus.
President Solih stated this at a virtual meeting held with the Fuvahmulah City Council on Thursday, where he stated that technicians would arrive in Fuvahmulah City within the following week to install a point of care (POC) machine for testing for Covid-19. Along with this, President Solih stated that with the assistance from the World Bank, a Covid-19 PCR testing machine would also be installed in Fuvahmulah City by the end of September 2021.
At present, Fuvahmulah City has a Gene Expert machine that can only test people who are symptomatic for the virus. While this machine is only used to test samples that need immediate results, the remaining samples, such as the random samples taken are sent to Addu City or capital city Malé for testing.
Aminath Ahmed from the Fuvahmulah Emergency Operation Center (FEOC) earlier stated that the city is facing difficulties in contact tracing due to the delay in receiving the results of the samples.
President Solih stated that the government would always be ready to aid all city, island and atoll councils and that the government would work with relevant stakeholders to swiftly address all concerns raised by the Councillors.
