President holds discussion with National Security Council after receiving 241 Inquiry report

Malé, Maldives – President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has met with the members of the National Security Council, after receiving the report from the Parliament’s Committee regarding the National Security Services inquiry into the May 6, 2021 terror attack on the Speaker of the Parliament and former President, President Mohamed Nasheed.

During the meeting, discussions were held on conducting further research on the recommendations and on how to proceed with implementing the recommendations outlined in the report.

A special ceremony was held on Tuesday at the President’s Office, where Chairperson of 241 Committee, MP for North Hithadhoo Constituency Mohamed Aslam officially presented the inquiry report on the May Terror Attack against Speaker Nasheed.

President Solih congratulated the 241 Committee members and noted that the members have done very important and hard work at short notice. President Solih thanked all the members of the 241 Committee for their hard work in compiling the inquiry report.

The 241 committee began the inquiry after an IED explosion went off around 20:20 on 6 May leaving Speaker of Parliament, Mohamed Nasheed critically injured while he was getting into his car near his house, G. Kenereege, Malé City. In addition to the Speaker, 3 more people were also been reported to be injured from the explosion including the Speaker’s bodyguards and bystanders.
